This month, Steve Parrish, TBCo Jacksonville Sales Representative, reflects on forty years with Tom Barrow Company. He joined the company in the warehouse and worked in estimating and as a sales assistant before moving into Outside Sales.
When asked how the company has changed over the years, Steve noted technology has had a tremendous impact on day-to-day operations and reflected on the days when quotes were created by hand using a catalog and an adding machine. The addition of the fax machine enabled them to send written quotes to customers and streamlined orders to the factories. The introduction of the computer led to the factories implementing pricing programs, which increased productivity. “With advancements in the technology we use, the company has provided everyone the ability to perform at their best.”
Steve takes pride in the work he does with TBCo. “I’m proud of all the jobs that I’ve worked on. My friends are probably tired of hearing me tell them ‘I did that project’ as we drive down the road.” Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville and UF Health Shands are projects he’s particularly proud of.
When asked what has kept him inspired throughout the years, Steve stated, “I’m proud to work for the best HVAC Rep company in Jacksonville and the Southeast.” He gave a shout out to Butch Dowman and Keith Billings for their guidance, assistance, and constructive criticism, encouraging him to perform to the best of his ability.
Steve mentioned that working in a variety of roles throughout the years has allowed him to move into Outside Sales, a position that keeps him motivated. “I would tell someone starting out at Tom Barrow Company that hard work pays off and the more you put into your work, the more you’ll get out of it.”
