As part of our 70th anniversary series of team member highlights, we’re pleased to feature Jeremy Harris, VP and Branch Manager of TBCo Memphis. Jeremy reflects on 30 years with Tom Barrow Company including some of the highlights and changes he has experienced over three decades from his early years as a sales trainee to his time as branch manager and VP.

When asked about changes he has observed, Jeremy noted that in some ways, the company was completely different 30 years ago, but it has remained the same at its core. “As the footprint of TBCo has changed over the years with additional product lines, employees, and core competencies, we have retained integrity, customer service, innovation, and care for our team members.”

Jeremy mentioned two of the many standout moments he has had as a TBCo team member, “Earning my first company vehicle in 1997 was a big deal for me. Also, joining the ownership group in 2015 really stands out.”

He is especially proud of the projects the Memphis branch has worked on with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Their mission of finding cures for childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment, regardless of ability to pay, is something I’m continually proud to be a part of.”

TBCo’s core values keep Jeremy motivated. “I’m proud that we have kept our core values, which Mr. Barrow instilled in me, as the company has experienced growth and changes over the years. I’m also motivated by seeing those around me grow in their abilities and thrive in this competitive market.”

When asked what words of wisdom he would share with someone joining the Tom Barrow Company team, Jeremy recalled advice given to him when he was a young sales engineer by Mr. Barrow. “He would tell me ‘If you have to eat a frog, it’s best not to look at it too long,” meaning we all make mistakes and it’s best not to let them sit and fester. Take your lumps, learn, and move forward with that new knowledge.”

The second piece of advice is about maintaining professional relationships. “He told me to be careful about burning bridges because you may find yourself having to cross the same ones in the future. The HVAC community isn’t very large, and people may leave their current positions, but they will probably move to a different role within the industry. It’s wise to maintain positive relationships.”

Thank you to Jeremy for the positive impact he has made on Tom Barrow Company over the past 30 years! The hard work and commitment of dedicated team members like him have made a lasting difference.
