Liz Edwards – Office Administrator/Inside Sales Support

"My journey with Tom Barrow Company started in January of 1998. I was hired as a receptionist and 2 days later I was moved into the sales assistant role.

In those days we had to price everything from a book and either fax or mail the quotation. There was no Titus ( our air distribution line at the time) or Ruskin programs. I do vaguely remember Cook having a program for pricing. That program still made you print out your order and fax to Loren Cook.

We had tons of catalogs with different pricing sheets. Some that stick out in my mind was the hot Pink Young Regulator Catalog and the brown flimsy Crown catalog.

We had tons of file cabinets holding the files of each project and a back room filled with Banker’s boxes to house the archives of not only projects but the overhead bills that were approved and sent in the mail to Atlanta for payment.

The word streamline was not applicable in those early years. So much clutter, so much paper, and so many dollars spent on postage.

We have come so far since those early days. Technology has made our industry quick and efficient.

One thing that hasn’t changed in all those years is the culture of the Orlando Branch. Instilled by Linda Moles, Mr. Barrow’s first cousin, there has always been a sense of camaraderie and fellowship. In the almost 29 years I have been here I have rarely felt disrespected or not valued. I pride myself in an atmosphere of family First always. I love telling everyone Mr. and Mrs. Barrow were at my wedding. I love the fact he came to the hospital after a major surgery to bring me trash magazines and candy. I also love he held my hand on a scary construction elevator and gave me peace.

Our anniversary celebrations are always meaningful and for 29 years the white Elephant exchange is always a huge hit at every Christmas party.

The other thing I live by is relationship selling. In some instances, I am working with 3rd generation business owners. It is gratifying that they are the first people to call us because we helped their dad or Grandpa for years. Lines come and go but trust is forever.

I have seen over 100 people come and go through this office. As of November 1, I will be the longest tenured employee in this branch and I wouldn’t change that for anything!"
