As part of our 70th anniversary celebration, we’re proud to spotlight Kathy Dammes, Inside Sales Assistant, who has been a valued member of the TBCo Atlanta team for 31 years. Kathy reflects on her journey with TBCo – one filled with teamwork, strong customer relationships, and witnessing tremendous company growth.
Kathy joined TBCo in 1994 as a file clerk and quickly became cross-trained in accounts receivable and warehouse operations, where she assisted customers and managed inventory orders. She even spent time in the estimating department. This diverse background has made Kathy a well-rounded team member who can step in and help wherever needed.
Over the years, Kathy has seen TBCo evolve significantly, especially in the adoption of new technologies. “As technology has advanced, TBCo has invested in changing and growing to boost efficiency, enabling us, as the industry leader, to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.”
Kathy has also watched the Atlanta branch expand, adding new product lines and offerings. “I’ve had a front row seat to TBCo’s massive growth, and I’m excited to see all the changes and opportunities to come.”
When reflecting on her proudest moments, Kathy recalls her involvement in many large-scale projects, “I take pride in the often challenging and interesting projects I’ve had the opportunity to work on from high-rise office buildings and mega churches to entertainment venues like the Georgia Aquarium and Suntrust Park (now Truist Park) – go Braves!”
While seeing major projects come to life is rewarding, Kathy finds internal development initiatives to be most fulfilling. “I enjoy teaching classes, developing processes and procedures to streamline work as well as being on committees to enhance the team’s work experience. I look forward to doing my part to help TBCo continue to evolve and grow.”
For Kathy, customers are at the heart of the job and remain her biggest motivation. “I’m proud to work for a company that values their customers and strives to deliver the best customer service every single day. To paraphrase Mr. Barrow, ‘All we sell is service. The only thing we manufacture is a quote.’ The customer can get these products from multiple sources – what sets us apart is the service we provide.”
Over three decades, Kathy has built lasting relationships with many customers – “I know them, and they know me. Not only does it make working together more enjoyable, it builds trust, creates a spirit of teamwork, and results in long lasting relationships.” She has customers who retired years ago but will still call or stop by the office to say hello.
Kathy has three tips for new team members at TBCo:
- Use your resources. Take advantage of factory training, webinars, and the knowledge of experienced teammates.
- Be patient. Training takes time — there’s a lot to learn, and it’s worth it. Don’t give up!
- Stay organized. It will benefit you in the long run.
Thank you, Kathy, for your commitment to our customers and your dedication to helping the TBCo team succeed. We’re grateful for your 31 years of service and for all you’ve contributed to TBCo’s continued success!
